VBA Code to Unprotect in Method 2 (If you need to restore the password use Method 3)
Code contained in practice workbook module 1:
Code not written by myself so use at your own risk. I have simply broken out onto separate lines to allow it to be run one loop at a time with stop breaks to avoid machine lockups.

Sub sbRemoveSheetPassword()

Dim i As Integer, j As Integer, k As Integer
Dim l As Integer, m As Integer, n As Integer
Dim i1 As Integer, i2 As Integer, i3 As Integer
Dim i4 As Integer, i5 As Integer, i6 As Integer

On Error Resume Next

For i = 65 To 66
For j = 65 To 66
For k = 65 To 66
For l = 65 To 66
For m = 65 To 66
For i1 = 65 To 66
For i2 = 65 To 66
For i3 = 65 To 66
For i4 = 65 To 66
For i5 = 65 To 66
For i6 = 65 To 66
For n = 32 To 126

ActiveSheet.Unprotect Chr(i) & Chr(j) & Chr(k) & _
Chr(l) & Chr(m) & Chr(i1) & Chr(i2) & Chr(i3) & _
Chr(i4) & Chr(i5) & Chr(i6) & Chr(n)

If ActiveSheet.ProtectContents = False Then
MsgBox “Complete”
Exit Sub
End If

End Sub

Remove Excel sheet protection and add it back again…..all without even knowing the password. In this video I'll show you 3 ways to crack password protection on Excel sheets. make the changes you want, and then re-protect the sheet again afterwards. I go through 3 methods, getting increasingly more sophisticated and more robust.

I thought method 3 would work but there is no xl file after I zipped the file. Only [6]DataSpaces, EncryptedPackage, and EncryptionInfo

  3. D. Garcia 10 months ago

If you just want to remove the password just open the spreadsheet in Libreoffice, save it to .ODS format. I will as to enter a LibreOffice compatible password. Open the .ODS spreadsheet and save back to Excel format and password will be what you set in LibreOffice.

Great tips! Another note for others to keep in mind: these methods will not work on an xlsb file where the internal files are encoded in binary as opposed to XML. This is also a good way for others to produce a spreadsheet that is protected from these methods

I cant do anything without adding a password, cant open VBA at all and when I change it to a .zip it just says "The archive is either in unknown format or damaged"?

Awesome. Thank´s a lot for the 3rd tip. Just a advice, some free compressing programs do not write it correctly when compacting the file again, causing the file to be "corrupt". The best way it´s to use Windows native compressing tool.

  28. Martand Singh 10 months ago

My Excel file had a password over it. I tried to try the zip method, but it is being corrupted. I used 7zip to open .zip contens, which delivered me a folder called 'Data Spaces' and two files namely 'encryption package' & 'encryption info'. have ben trying for a month. Its an important file. Please guide me further. @Up4Excel

I tried method 3 and got stuck at opening up the xml file to notepad. For some reason the code turned into all symbols when I opened the xml in a notepad.. i'm not sure why

  38. petlingo 10 months ago

When I do method 3 in Excel on my mac, the file is corrupt "The workbook cannot be opened or repaired by Microsoft Excel because it is corrupt." I don't get why it seems to work for some people and not others, since this and similar methods have never worked on my mac. I'm testing method 2, to see if it works. Right now it's running for a few minutes on my test sheet with a simple password to see if I can try it on a more complex worksheet. Thanks for the video.

  39. Godfrey Kutumela 10 months ago

No need for all these, just open the file using google sheets and all the vb code will be bi-passed then re save back to excel – done!
